The
Penny Black Victorian London Pub is without doubt the quintessential
Victorian Public House. Located at the Raffles Place entrance
to Boat Quay, one of Singapore's most colourful and vibrant river
front entertainment zones, The Penny Black provides a grand façade
at the gateway to the Singapore River Promenade.

The
name "Penny Black" is derived from the World's
first ever self-adhesive postage stamp which was printed
black in colour and sold for one penny and was first issued
on the 6th May 1840. Click
here for a brief history of the Penny Black postage
stamp.
Designed and built in England and shipped and installed
in its entirety to its present location at 26 & 27 Boat
Quay, The Penny Black is a highly authentic representation
of a traditional Victorian London pub.

The riverfront seating area provide the perfect setting for 'al
fresco' dining, whilst inside on the ground level is the London
tavern area with cloisters, high tables and a long and inviting
bar. The upstairs 'snug bar' of The Penny Black is themed in the
style of the owners own lounge and living quarters. This section
of the pub provides a comfortable setting for informal business
meetings.
The
weekends here provide the opportunity for fans of major sporting
events to see their heroes in action - be it on the 6 Nations
rugby field, in the English Premiere League, or hurtling round
a Formula 1 Grand Prix racing track.
Aside
from local favourites Tiger, Heineken and Guinness, The Penny
Black has introduced to Singapore two excellent English ales,
Old Speckled Hen and Greene King IPA, as well as a fine drop of
Strongbow's English cider.
Food at The Penny Black is freshly home cooked daily, providing
hearty meals at lunch times and extremely enticing local and western
barfood in the evenings. Biggest sellers include Fish and Chips,
bangers and mash, Cottage pie, and the steak and ale pie.
